Sandbox is a separate copy of everything: its own keys (oc_pk_test_…, oc_sk_test_…), cards, gateways, transactions and webhook endpoints. It is free and never moves money. Switch with the environment switch at the top of the dashboard.
Use these card numbers with any future expiry date and any security code, except 000, which is always an incorrect code. A past expiry date is declined as expired_card. With the test gateway, each number gives the result below. Live keys refuse all of these numbers, and sandbox keys take nothing else (real_card_in_sandbox_mode), so a real card is never kept in sandbox.
The dashboard lists them too, under Developers → Test cards. Use card next to a card opens Developers → Try hosted fields, the real form with your sandbox key, with that number, a future expiry date and a security code filled in.

Numbers that never work
4242 4242 4242 4241 fails the check digit, so the form (and the API) refuse it before it is tokenized.
Your gateway’s own sandbox
To test against a real processor, connect your gateway’s sandbox account in sandbox and use the numbers above; most processor sandboxes accept 4111 1111 1111 1111. Each processor has its own amounts that trigger declines; see their documentation. Results come back with the same OrderCard codes. If your processor’s sandbox needs a number that is not listed here, contact support.
